If you haven't already done a force field window, please see How
do I make a "force field" window? It uses the same technique, but we'll add
a switch to control the mask.
1. Start by making two fair sized rooms connected by a small, middle sector. See the
map below for an example.
2. In 3D mode, I've added some texturing (I'm sick of that default brown brick
texture!) and lowered the ceiling of the middle sector.
3. Go back into 2D mode, switch to a lower grid scale and insert two points on the left
and right walls of the middle sector.
4. Now connect the two points to create two seperate sectors.
5. In 3D mode, I've changed the floor and ceiling texture of the closer sector to the
yellow and black stripe.
6. Now point at the floor on the closer sector (place the mouse right on the
yellow/black striped texture) and press the 'M' key to turn the mask on (most likely, the
default mask will be the brown brick texture).
7. Point at the wall texture that popped up and hit the 'V' key twice. Select tile #663
W_FORCEFIELD.
8. Now turn the mask off by pointing at the same sector floor and pressing 'M' again.
9. Now place a switch on the wall (any toggle switch will do).
10. Now go into 2D mode and set the LOTAG of
the switch sprite and the LOTAG of the middle wall to the same number (pick a number
which is not used with any other sector effectors on your map).
All Done! Save the map and go run it. Try and walk through the force field. OUCH!
You won't have much luck. Now pull the switch and watch the force field disappear! You may
want to go back into BUILD, turn the mask back on and change the palette of the force
field to red (palette 2). This makes it look "hot".
